Hello & Welcome!

Get to Know Me

Hey, I’m Emma, the Colorado-based adventurer behind Emma Gets Outside.

I love traveling, outdoor activities, and nature photography. Emma Gets Outside combines my passions and incorporates valuable knowledge I’ve accumulated over years of exploring.

A lot of the content you’ll find here is about things I learned the hard way and wish I knew before getting outside. Lucky for you, you can learn the easy way by reading along.

My goal is for you to find my guides and advice essential to your own travel and outdoor journeys. I’m here to enhance your experiences.

My Story

I grew up in the suburbs of the Midwest. After taking a family vacation to the mountains when I was 13, I knew I had to eventually move west.

Searching for out-of-state colleges to attend, I stumbled across a university in Colorado. I had never been to Colorado before, but the school felt like the right choice.

The college’s Outdoor Program introduced me to backpacking, 14ers, camping, and hiking. Suddenly, it was as if I had been transported to a new planet. There were crystal clear alpine lakes, towering snow-capped peaks, and arches of red rock in my backyard.

I couldn’t get enough, and went camping every weekend of my first semester of college until it got too cold to sleep in a tent.

Fast forward to graduating from college, and I landed a remote marketing job. While the job had nothing to do with the science degree I burnt myself out to get, I was grateful to have the work.

I worked in marketing for 2.5 years and decided I wanted to take more control of my schedule.

My husband and I got married two months before I quit my marketing job. We planned a month-long honeymoon in New Zealand for February of the following year.

That trip solidified what I already suspected — I craved more travel and freedom with my work. Emma Gets Outside has since become my passion project, and I want it to nurture a community of knowledgeable adventure-seekers.

Book the trip, go on the hike, and experience all this remarkable world has to offer.

See you down the trail,

Emma
